New Coaches, New Team Information

Thank You For Coaching!

Getting Started List:

  1. Think about a team name.

Choose your team name before you leave team assignments. It is better to have a team name on the schedule instead of a coach’s name. With all the other coaches present, there will be no duplications within the age group.

2. Sign up for a coach’s clinic.

GLSA will offer coaching clinics each season.

3.Pick uniforms for your team.

You can have any color you like as long as it is not gold or yellow to wear on game days. If there is a color conflict with the other team, then the home team must change. Contrasting bibs, not gold or yellow, may be used. Uniforms should be ordered at least 12 days prior to when you want to receive them. Cost of uniforms should be kept to a minimum as many parents have multiple children participating. Try to get a sponsor to pick up all or part of the uniform cost.

4. Set practice times.

Make sure your practices are in a “legal” area. Be prepared with this information when contacting parents for first time.

5. Get soccer equipment for practices.

Here is a list of suggestions: at least 4 extra balls for players who have forgotten them, 8 cones, 4 to make goals, 4 to outline a little field, bibs, practice vests of contrasting colors. Flags are also good to create makeshift goals.

6. Contact parents of your players.

(Don’t forget to ask of their child so you can expedite your uniform order)

Contact parents as soon as you receive your roster. Call until you reach them.

Speaking with parents is a great way to introduce yourself and to give them an opportunity to “meet” and ask questions of the person who will be spending time with their child. Seek a TEAM MOM as soon as possible to assist you with calling during the season after the team begins practice.
